Urban Planner

Multiple Locations

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Planner to join our clients planning and development team. This position is responsible for reviewing, processing, and coordinating land development applications, as well as contributing to long-range planning initiatives and policy development. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of planning legislation, land use bylaws, and community development best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and process development permit applications, rezoning requests, subdivisions, and related planning proposals.

  • Conduct policy analysis and research to support planning decisions and long-range planning initiatives.

  • Provide professional planning advice to internal departments, developers, consultants, and members of the public.

  • Prepare and present reports and recommendations to senior staff, planning committees, and Council.

  • Assist in drafting and updating planning documents, such as area structure plans, land use bylaws, and design guidelines.

  • Facilitate public engagement activities including open houses, stakeholder meetings, and consultations.

  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to ensure coordinated development review and infrastructure planning.

  • Monitor development trends, zoning compliance, and emerging planning issues.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Design, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in development or municipal planning.

  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and/or a provincial planning association is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of planning legislation, policies, and development processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
