The Finance Manager / Controller is responsible for leading all financial functions within a residential home building business, with a strong focus on construction accounting, project budgeting, lender reporting, and cash flow management. This role works closely with ownership and operations to ensure financial performance across active builds, land development activities, and overall business operations.
Key Responsibilities
•Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the home building business.
•Manage full-cycle accounting including reconciliations, reporting, and month-end close.
•Develop and maintain annual operating budgets for the business.
•Prepare, monitor, and update detailed job budgets for each residential project.
•Track construction costs against budgets and identify variances throughout each stage of the build cycle.
•Monitor margins across homes, projects, and communities.
•Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts tied to construction schedules, lot releases, and possession timelines.
•Coordinate cash requirements for trades, suppliers, servicing costs, and overhead.
•Negotiate and manage construction loan facilities, operating lines, and lender relationships.
•Prepare lender reporting packages and coordinate draw submissions.
•Support financing applications for new phases, lot acquisitions, and development activity.
•Review tenders, subcontractor pricing, and supplier cost proposals from a financial perspective.
•Partner with construction and purchasing teams to ensure budgets reflect current market pricing.
•Support contract negotiations and evaluate financial risk related to project commitments.
Qualifications & Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
•CPA designation preferred.
•5–10+ years of experience in finance, ideally within residential construction, development, or home building.
•Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and project financial controls.
•Experience working directly with banks, lenders, and construction financing.
•Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
